What makes a trip to Cambodia with Travel For Teens so special?

Unlocking the Secrets of Ancient Angkor

Our trip is centered around an immersive exploration of the Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Teens won’t just see the temples; they’ll climb the towering tiers of Angkor Wat, discover the jungle-claimed ruins of Ta Prohm, and meet the serene, smiling faces carved into the stones of the Bayon Temple. This is a history lesson brought to life on an epic scale.

Deep Dive into Culture and Human Resilience

We guide teens through the recent, yet essential, history of Cambodia. While somber, these experiences are crucial to understanding the incredible strength, kindness, and optimism of the Cambodian people today. This is a journey that fosters deep respect and global citizenship, moving far beyond typical tourism.

Meaningful Travel

Cambodia provides an incredible opportunity to experience exotic travel with a high level of comfort while maintaining a strong ethical focus. Our itinerary maximizes value by supporting locally owned businesses and initiatives, teaching teens how to be responsible and global citizens without sacrificing the thrill of adventure.

A Culinary Adventure Beyond the Usual

Discover the delicate, aromatic flavors of Khmer cuisine! Cambodian food is uniquely influenced by its neighbors, resulting in less spice and a greater emphasis on fresh herbs, coconut milk, and river fish. Teens can try staples like Fish Amok (a creamy coconut curry) and explore vibrant local markets for fresh fruit and unique snacks.

Frequently Asked Questions

See all FAQs

What currency should I use in Cambodia, and are credit cards accepted?

The US Dollar (USD) is the most common currency for tourists and is accepted almost everywhere. The local currency, the Cambodian Riel (KHR), is mainly used for smaller transactions or for change less than $1. You will need cash for most small shops, street food, and tuk-tuks, as credit cards are typically only accepted in large hotels, shops, and Western-style restaurants.

What should I wear when visiting the ancient temples?

You must dress respectfully when visiting religious sites, including the Angkor temples. This is a sign of respect for the local culture. All visitors must have their shoulders covered (no tank tops or halter tops) and wear pants, capris, or skirts that cover their knees. Comfortable, lightweight, and breathable clothing is highly recommended due to the heat.

How do we travel between the major sites and cities?

We use a combination of private, air-conditioned transportation for longer distances and local transportation for city and site tours. To experience local life and keep transportation flexible, we walk and use tuk-tuks (motorized rickshaws) in the cities like Siem Reap. All transportation is pre-arranged, vetted, and driven by our reliable local partners to ensure group safety.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions and food allergies?

Yes, we can accommodate most dietary restrictions with advance notice. Khmer cuisine is naturally gluten-free in many cases (relying on rice noodles), and vegetarian options are common. Please notify us of any allergies (especially to peanuts or seafood, which are common ingredients), and we will work closely with our local chefs to ensure safe, delicious, and authentic meal options are prepared for every teen.

Authenticity is ingrained in everything we do. Eat, stay, and travel like a local.

"This was my Fourth TFT trip and definitely the most fulfilling!! I went to Thailand and had an amazing experience. We had some thrilling adventures, like zip lining and scuba diving, but my favorite part was the service aspect. We helped with renovations to a school in a small village near Chiang Mai. I was also lucky enough to participate in the optional excursion to Angkor Watt in Cambodia. The temples were breathtaking and I consider it one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. We had a small group so everyone on the trip, including the counselors got pretty close. I recommend this trip to anyone looking for an experience of a lifetime."

"Hey Ned! How are ya?… I just wanted to thank you for another amazing summer… After last summer, I was afraid this one wouldn’t compare and I would be disappointed, but I was completely wrong. I had a beyond amazing time on all of the trips I went on. I can’t even begin to explain how excited I was that day to meet up with you in the Paris airport on the way to Thailand. I had already been on two incredible trips that summer and then Thailand and Australia just surpassed everything. I will never forget any of the places I went to or all of the people I met. Every trip I have been on has been absolutely unforgettable and I am always thinking about what an amazing time I had. Thank you so much for a great time in Thailand, Cambodia, and Australia!!! Any word on the reunion yet?"

"I never thought I'd have the opportunity to go to China until I saw the trip posted on TFT. I was so excited because I had gone to Southeast Asia last year with the company and had a blast. I love learning and understanding the history behind the places so China was the perfect place for me. I was able to see the terracotta warriors, the Great Wall of China, and even work with amazing, and cuddly, giant pandas. I had never seen a panda before and they are truly incredible animals and something I will never forget! One of my favorite parts was going to help a local farmer. After a long days work, they provided us with our own dumpling making class and a delicious meal. I'm so glad I had the chance to explore China and I cannot wait to go back!"

"This summer I had the opportunity to travel to Thailand! This was my first time traveling to Asia and if i'm being honest I was quite nervous, but TFT did an amazing job of making me feel welcome and showing me so many amazing things I will never forget. The bonds I made with campers on the trip will last for a lifetime and we are even talking about having a meet up in December! The counselors were very nice and were very helpful in helping us navigate the markets and getting us to excursions on time. Overall the trip was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to have the trip of a lifetime!"
