Fun Facts About The Region
Beaches
It’s possible that there are no finer beaches in the world than the ones you’ll find in Latin America. Picture a palm tree-lined paradise with miles of glittering white sand meeting turquoise ocean as warm as bathwater. Yup, the beaches here offer all that and more!
Jungles
Step inside a jungle and discover all that lies hidden beneath its canopy: waterfalls, monkeys, rivers, mountains, and more. This isn’t your ordinary forest!
Language
The best way to learn a language is to fully immerse yourself in it, which you can easily do throughout Latin America. If you’re looking to brush up on your Spanish or pick up this language skill for the first time, you can practice the language with encouraging teachers or perfect it by singing songs and playing games with friendly locals.
Food
Chow down on mouthwatering traditional meals after a long day of exploring. Even better yet, learn to cook Latin American delicacies so you can bring back home a taste of the region.
Wildlife
Spot the colorful flash of a jewel-toned tropical bird soaring through the air or swim alongside the giant sea turtles that lay their eggs on the beaches year after year. Latin America is home to a range of beautiful and fascinating animals that any animal lover will be excited to meet!
Adventure
Dreaming about an adventure? Latin America will deliver. Surf massive waves along the coast or zipline above the jungle — maybe even rappel a hundred feet down a waterfall — all of this and more in a land teeming with thrilling opportunities!

"TFT gave me such an incredible opportunity to experience personal growth, meet inspiring people, challenge my comfort zone, and form long-lasting bonds with families and students that live across the globe from me. It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity that I wouldn’t trade for anything. I went on the Peru, Ecuador, and Galapagos service trip that I can honestly say changed my life. From working with local preschoolers, living with host families, and picking up trash from sustainable farms to exploring Machu Picchu and swimming off the shores of beautiful white sand beaches in the Galapagos, I had an unforgettable experience. All the people I had met, both in my travel group and locals, have become dear friends and people I will forever share a special bond with. TFT is one of the most amazing programs I have ever been a part of, and I am sure you will discover the same."
"My Costa Rica experience with TFT was an unforgettable one. I appreciated how it was not just a “vacation” but I was very invested in the culture and communities there. From zip-lining across the green rainforest, to building playgrounds for Costa Rican children, TFT did a fantastic job allowing me to see all the amazing things Costa Rica has to offer."
"Signing up for a Travel For Teens trip was the best decision I’ve ever made. I was a bit nervous at first about traveling by myself, and I was worried I wouldn’t make any friends. Little did I know that in just a two week time period I’d have a whole new point of view on travel, and friends that will last a lifetime. There was never once a second where I felt homesick because every day was filled with life changing experiences like working hands-on with sea turtles, zip-lining, surfing, and exploring the beautiful country of Costa Rica. Our counselors were some of the sweetest, and funniest people I’ve ever met, and were super helpful in guiding us on how to be proper travelers, rather than tourists. I swear time moves quicker in Costa Rica, because those amazing two weeks were over too soon. Our group may have looked incredibly weird to the patrons in Miami Airport terminal 24 who probably do not see very many groups of 12 teenagers huddled in a crying group hug. We eventually all managed to stop crying and go our separate ways, meanwhile planning our TFT trips for the next summer. Overall I returned more confident and open than I was before going on the trip, and am counting down the days till my next trip."
"This summer was my favorite summer yet. I had the chance to spend a week on the Galapagos Islands and two more weeks in the numerous amazing places in Ecuador. I was able to snorkel with sea lions and sea turtles, learn about Charles Darwin's research, and help out the local community to maintain the island's sustainable practices. The Galapagos were incredible, but I could not wait to go to the Amazon! Not many people can say that they hiked through the Amazon to get to a lodge and shortly after, go piranha fishing, and top off the night with a night-walk to spot giant tarantulas. The adventure did not end there. We hiked up Cotopaxi, one of the tallest volcanos in Ecuador. The views were unbelievable! We finished off the trip but relaxing in natural hot springs, standing in the middle of the world (on the equator), and going on the best zip-lining course I've ever seen. This was a truly unforgettable trip, and I have found another country to add to my list of places to re-visit!"
