What makes a trip to Switzerland with Travel For Teens so special?

Alpine Adventure and Village Immersion

Our itineraries blend the most thrilling experiences with authentic local life and spectacular, once-in-a-lifetime views. Depending on your program, you can launch into the action in places like Interlaken, the adventure capital, with heart-pumping activities such as paragliding and canyoning. You’ll also witness incredible engineering, enjoying a meal at the famed James Bond rotating restaurant on top of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. We ensure you experience the ultimate alpine life by taking you to traditional car-free villages like Zermatt or Saas Grund, where you’ll stay at the base of a mountain nestled in a local Swiss village. In these spectacular mountain settings, you’ll tackle a fun ropes course and enjoy mountain biking (for all skill levels).

A Deep Dive into Culinary and Linguistic Cultures

Switzerland is a sophisticated cultural crossroads with four official languages (German, French, Italian, and Romansh). This means you’ll move between distinct regions, experiencing the charming differences in architecture, food, and daily life. You’ll get hands-on experience by participating in a fun chocolate making workshop and tasting authentic local specialties like creamy fondue and hearty raclette right at their source. Our trips explore diverse regions, like Montreux near Lake Geneva, where you can cool down with a refreshing swim while surrounded by historic beauty, gaining unique exposure to the multi-lingual environment that defines the country.

Safety, Structure, and Confidence

Switzerland consistently ranks as one of the safest countries in the world. This low-crime, highly organized environment, combined with our expert staff and structured program, provides the perfect setting for you to gain a massive boost in self-confidence, independence, and comfort traveling abroad, all while having fun with new friends.

The Thrill of High-Altitude Extremes

A TFT trip can offer once-in-a-lifetime experiences only possible in the high Alps. This includes the rare chance for summer skiing on glacier slopes in resorts like Saas Grund, giving you bragging rights and an incredible new skill. Travel is seamless and comfortable on the famous, efficient Swiss rail system, allowing you to easily hop between diverse regional highlights while constantly being surrounded by spectacular alpine panoramas.

Frequently Asked Questions

See all FAQs

What are travelers' favorite activities in Switzerland?

Hands down, the favorites involve high-altitude thrills and unique alpine views! Our travelers consistently rank paragliding over the Interlaken lakes, navigating the challenging but fun ropes courses, and the once-in-a-lifetime experience of enjoying a meal at the James Bond rotating restaurant on the Schilthorn as their top activities. Exploring the car-free village of Zermatt with the Matterhorn views is also a huge hit, as is the hands-on chocolate making workshop.

Can I really try skiing during a summer trip?

Yes, it’s possible on some itineraries! Switzerland offers the unique experience of summer skiing on glacier slopes in high-altitude resorts like Saas Grund. This is a special, unforgettable activity that may be included in your chosen program, allowing you to ski/snowboard surrounded by stunning summer views.

Will my trip take me to all of the cities listed (Zermatt, Interlaken, Montreux, etc.)?

The specific places you visit depend on the duration and focus of your program. Switzerland is incredibly diverse, and we design trips to highlight different regions. For example, some focus heavily on the adventure of Interlaken, while others explore the alpine life of Zermatt and Saas Grund, or the French-speaking area around Montreux and Lake Geneva. Be sure to check the detailed itinerary for the specific programs you are interested in!

What kind of accommodations will we be using?

We use a variety of comfortable, local-style accommodations. This may include hotels, and on some trips, you’ll experience a true taste of alpine living by staying right at the base of a mountain nestled in a local Swiss village; perfectly positioned for easy access to our hiking and adventure activities.

What should I pack for a summer trip to the Swiss Alps?

Layers are key! Even in summer, temperatures can change drastically between city valleys and mountain peaks. You’ll need comfortable, sturdy hiking/walking shoes, clothes for both warm weather (shorts, t-shirts), and cold weather (fleece or light jacket, rain jacket/windbreaker). Don’t forget a swimsuit for lake activities, a strong sunscreen, and sunglasses. The sun is very strong at high altitudes! A comprehensive, detailed packing list will be provided to you well in advance of your departure.

Authenticity is ingrained in everything we do. Eat, stay, and travel like a local.

"The summer before I left for college, I went on the Europe for Older Teens: Florence, Cinque Terre, Switzerland and Paris and it was hands down the best experience of my life. The trip not only prepared me for living on my own in college, but it completely changed me as a person. Going into the trip, I was an extremely anxious person and I was so scared about flying on my own for the first time and not knowing a single person going into the trip, but by the end of it, I was so much more confident and sure of myself.  With the itinerary that was provided, I was able to push myself out of my comfort zone whether it was paragliding over the Swiss Alps, jumping off cliffs into a canyon, trying new foods (the snails I ate in Paris were surprisingly delicious!), and meeting and talking to new people. I made some of my best friends on this trip who I continue to talk to to this day despite us being thousands of miles apart. I recommend any Travel for Teens trips to kids of any age as I whole heartedly believe that TFT completely changes the lives of people who go on the trips, but I would especially recommend it to older teens about to leave for college as it not only helps you adjust to living on your own, but it builds up the confidence necessary to thrive in college. I will forever be grateful for TFT as it completely changed my life for the better and I would not be the person I am today without the experiences I had and the people I met on the trip."

"This trip was everything I could ask for and more. I am a huge adrenaline junkie and this trip did everything it could to help sustain that. Mountain climbing at insane heights, zip lining over canyons, paragliding off of mountains, mountain biking, and cliff diving. What more could you ask for? Additionally, the cities you stay in were beautiful especially Switzerland. Switzerland is often an overlooked country when it comes to Europe but it is definitely one of my favorites and a must for any traveler. The wooden ski villages have an almost holiday charm to them that can not be found anywhere else. It is truly a one of a kind country and you really get to experience it on this trip."

Jackson M. Los Angeles, CA

"This past summer I had an unforgettable experience. Being a curious girl since I was little, I have always dreamed of traveling the world and discovering new places. TFT has allowed me to follow this dream of mine. I never would have thought I would have the opportunity to climb the Eiffel Tower in Paris or hike through Cinque Terre. I even got to go paragliding in Switzerland and hike through the Swiss Alps! Going on this trip has let me experience new things with people who are now my life long friends. We are actually planning on a reunion for this summer! If I had the chance to go on this trip again I wouldn’t even have to think twice about saying yes. This experience of trying new activities and making new friends is one I will treasure. If you are adventurous and a daredevil, I definitely recommend this trip."

Christina M. Stewart Manor, NY

"I had the amazing opportunity to travel on the Europe for Older Teens trip to Amsterdam, Munich, Switzerland, and Venice with TFT and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had! My amazing counselors were so welcoming and inclusive to not only me, but all the campers. I was a little nervous to go on the trip at first, but after just one day on the trip I knew I made the right choice! TFT programs are great because the counselors give you that independence you want, while also keeping everyone safe! That trip was one I will never forget, the memories I made with awesome people is priceless. Thank you TFT!"

"Travel For Teens provided me with the opportunity to not only explore new cultures and sights, but also allowed me to experience life as a local not a tourist. My trip to Italy, Switzerland, and France completely changed my life by instilling an appreciation for other languages, foods, and traditions. One of my favorite parts was traveling with a group of students my age and the extremely knowledgeable and passionate counselors who I still communicate with to this day."

Melania H. Chicago, IL

"My experience going on an adventure with Travel For Teens was incredible and unforgettable. Last summer, I went on the two week trip to Florence, Cinque Terre, Switzerland, and Paris with Older Teens. My trip had a rough start, since I did not go on the group flight, and my flight missed a connection in Portugal. I was scared that I would be missing out on activities and that it would be difficult to make friends if I joined the trip after it started. It was such a relief when I finally arrived in Florence and was greeted by my counselor Mike at the airport. He made me feel comfortable right away. It turned out that multiple people on my trip had problems with flights and TFT was able to keep track of everyone and collect them one by one from the airport. Once I got over the sleep deprivation from the long overnight flight, all of my worries went away and I had the best time traveling around Europe with people from all over the country, none of whom I had met before yet all of whom I became friends with. From Italy to Switzerland to France, we saw all of the famous sites and tried all of the amazing food. Just a few of the memorable experiences included learning how to make delicious homemade pesto in Cinque Terre, sampling fondue in Interlaken, paragliding through the Alps, and climbing up the Eiffel Tower in Paris. I must have taken over two thousand pictures over the span of the trip, and I look at them all the time to keep the memories of the trip intact and to put a smile on my face. I had the best summer of my life, and I couldn’t have done it without TFT."
