What makes a trip to Spain with Travel For Teens so special?

Live the Local Culture

We go beyond the typical tourist sights, giving you the freedom to explore like a local. This includes navigating the excellent public transport, eating authentic (and delicious!) tapas in local restaurants, and enjoying the relaxed, spontaneous Spanish lifestyle with its famously late dinners and social evening strolls.

Art, Architecture, and Fun

Immerse yourself in the colorful, imaginative world of Gaudí’s architecture in Barcelona, visit world-class museums like the Prado in Madrid, or take surf lessons at Spain’s hottest surf spot —a must-do for any adventure fan!

Language and Confidence Boost

Traveling with a group of peers in a foreign country is a huge step. You’ll have opportunities to practice your Spanish in real-life situations, become comfortable navigating new cities, and gain a massive boost in independence and self-confidence that you’ll carry long after the trip ends.

The Social Experience: Tapas Culture

Forget sitting down for one quiet meal. Spain is famous for Tapas, which aren’t a single food but a style of eating. Tapas are small, savory snacks or appetizers—like mini meals—designed to be shared. The true Spanish experience is called “ir de tapas” (going for tapas), which means hopping from bar to bar with friends, having one small plate and one drink at each spot.

Must-Try Tapas:

Patatas Bravas: Fried potato cubes drizzled with a spicy tomato sauce and usually a dollop of creamy aioli. A universal favorite!

Tortilla Española: The thick, hearty Spanish omelet made with slow-cooked potatoes and eggs. Served hot or cold, it’s a staple.

Croquetas: Creamy, savory little fried fritters (often filled with ham, chicken, or cheese) that are crunchy on the outside and velvety on the inside.

Jamón Ibérico: Incredibly famous, thinly sliced cured ham that you’ll see hanging in every tapas bar.

What are travelers' favorite activities in Spain?

Travelers’ favorite activities in Spain are a vibrant mix of culture, food, and adrenaline, with three main categories dominating: exploring Antoni Gaudí’s unique architecture in Barcelona, indulging in the Tapas culture, and enjoying coastal or mountain adventures.

What should I know about mealtimes in Spain?

Be prepared for a later schedule! Spaniards typically eat lunch between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM and dinner often doesn’t start until 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM. Tapas—small plates or snacks—are a great way to tie you over between meals.

Are the Spain tours suitable for middle and high school students?

Yes, our Spain programs are suitable for middle and high school travelers! We offer multiple Spain itineraries designed specifically for different age groups. We have tours tailored exclusively for middle school students, options for 9th and 10th graders, and trips for “older teens” who are finishing 11th and 12th grade. Each tour is expertly designed to ensure the pace, activities, and group dynamics are appropriate for that specific age range.

Do I need to speak Spanish to travel to Spain?

No, you do not need to speak Spanish! All our Spain Trip Leaders are experts in the country, and work closely with trusted local guides and partners to ensure a smooth, safe, and communicative experience during all activities. However, we highly encourage you to try out a few basic phrases—the locals will love it!

Authenticity is ingrained in everything we do. Eat, stay, and travel like a local.

"Johnny, I just wanted to take the time to sincerely thank you for everything you did to make this past week absolutely perfect. Our trip to Spain was a truly unforgettable one, and we definitely have you, Phil, and Isaac to thank for that. Your patience and kindness with us was unbelievably astounding and please know that it was greatly appreciated. I was expecting a typical strict Villa trip with limited time for fun, but I was so pleasantly surprised thanks to you guys and your upbeat personalities. I had a blast and am so thankful to have met three of the best trip leaders there is. I know I can speak for everyone else when I say that we already miss it soooo much. This sounds so cliche, but every single day so far in school has been spent reminiscing about “Espana” and it’s literally all we can think about. We especially say how much we miss you, Isaac, and Phil and trying to explain how great you guys were to our other friends doesn’t even do it justice. It really made a difference to have someone like you leading us around Spain. I feel like we saw all the important things, ate at the best places (kabobs!!!!), and had a real cultural experience because you knew what you were doing, you were organized, and most importantly so much fun! You guys have a tough job dealing with 23 teenage girls in a foreign country yet you did it effortlessly and with a smile on your face. You thanked us for never complaining, but we should really be thanking you for never giving us a reason to. I truly had the time of my life and wanted you to know that it wouldn’t have been possible without TFT. This experience has definitely sparked an interest in me to travel as much as possible, just like you guys always tell us to. I hope everywhere I travel to in the future is as memorable and painless as our trip. My week in Spain will always have a special place in my heart and I will miss it so much (we are already talking about having an Espana11 reunion pool party at my house haha). Thank you again for everything."

"We truly are enjoying your pictures and updates! They’ve helped me to step back and let Laura experience Spain with a bit of independence."

Judy Morrison

"Thank you so much! Mariia is very happy in Spain. She likes Spanish classes and has fun spending time in San-Sebastián."

Kate Rusina

"This past summer I went to Spain with TFT. Like all of the TFT trips I have been on, this one was amazing! We went on a bike tour through Barcelona, swam in the waters of Malaga, and dined at amazing restaurants in Madrid. The counselors were so knowledgable, teaching us Spanish as well as great tips about the cities we were in! There was never a dull moment, and every day was a unique adventure. My favorite parts were touring the beautiful Sagrada Familia and learning how to make paella. This trip is a great choice for both new and experienced travelers and I highly recommend it for anyone with a love of culture, beaches, history, and tapas!"

"We have been using Travel for Teens for years. We alternate between France and Spain. This year we are going to Paris, Nice, Monaco etc… Last year was Madrid, Palma and Barcelona. This is my 4th trip with them. A French native, I have been teaching French and Spanish at GA for 31 years. Each experience has been terrific and has actually changed the life of a couple of students who came back from the trip more confident, mature and with a different outlook on life. We have been extremely satisfied every year and are already organizing next year trip to Spain."

Patrick D.

"This past summer I had the opportunity to travel to Spain with our students. My personal experience was just so enjoyable and fulfilling. The three young men who traveled with us to Spain did an outstanding job. They were very organized and made sure we all were well taken care of. They were extremely respectful of the students and the chaperones. Travel For Teens gives young people an excellent opportunity to experience the beauty of other countries and cultures."
