What makes a trip to the Netherlands with Travel For Teens so special?

Live the Local Culture

Our programs bring you right into the heart of Italian life. We take you off the beaten path to explore hidden beaches, teach you how to grab a quick espresso at a local bar, and encourage you to join the energetic atmosphere of the central piazze (public squares) where life happens after sunset.

Art, Architecture, and Fun

Immerse yourself in the Golden Age of art at the Van Gogh Museum, marvel at the historic canal houses and tilt-roof architecture, and take a day trip to see the iconic kinderdijk windmills. Whether you’re cruising the canals or cycling through the scenic countryside, the Netherlands offers a perfect blend of culture, history, and light adventure.

Language and Confidence Boost

Traveling with a group of peers in a foreign country is a huge step. While the Dutch are famous for their excellent English, you’ll have opportunities to practice your basic Dutch phrases in real-life situations, feel comfortable navigating busy cities, and gain a massive boost in independence and self-confidence that will last long after the trip ends.

The Social Experience: Sweet & Savory Snacks

Dutch food culture is centered around delicious, comforting, and often on-the-go treats. You’ll be sampling authentic, popular specialties, indulging in the simple perfection of fresh pancakes (Pannenkoeken), or savoring warm, cheesy goodness from a street vendor.

Must-Try Cultural Foods:

Stroopwafel: Two thin, crispy waffles glued together by a layer of warm caramel syrup. A national treasure!

Frites (or Patat): Thick-cut French fries, traditionally served in a paper cone and topped with various sauces, especially Fritessaus (a creamy mayo).

Kroketten: Savory, deep-fried croquettes with a creamy meat filling, a perfect on-the-go snack or lunch served on a roll.

Poffertjes: Small, fluffy, miniature pancakes dusted with powdered sugar and a knob of butter.

What are travelers' favorite activities in Netherlands?

Travelers’ favorite activities in the Netherlands often include exploring the masterpieces at the Van Gogh Museum, taking a ferry to explore different parts of Amsterdam, renting a bicycle to see the city and countryside, and visiting unique cultural sites like the Anne Frank House.

What should I know about mealtimes in Netherlands?

The Dutch generally eat quite early compared to Southern Europe. Lunch is typically between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM, and the main, warm dinner is usually served between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Unlike countries with late-night food customs, most social eating happens around the dinner hour.

Are the Netherlands tours suitable for middle and high school students?

Yes, our Netherlands programs are suitable for middle and high school travelers! We offer multiple itineraries designed specifically for different age groups, including tours for middle schoolers, options for 9th and 10th graders, and trips for “older teens” finishing 11th and 12th grade. Each tour is expertly designed to ensure the pace, activities, and group dynamics are appropriate for that specific age range.

Do I need to speak Dutch to travel to Netherlands?

No, you do not need to speak Dutch! The Netherlands has one of the highest English proficiency rates globally. All our Trip Leaders are experts and work closely with local partners to ensure smooth communication. While basic phrases like “Dank u wel” (thank you) are appreciated, you’ll find it easy to communicate throughout your trip.

Authenticity is ingrained in everything we do. Eat, stay, and travel like a local.

"We wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks for guiding Audrey through Europe. Your dedication, expertise, and care made the trip an unforgettable experience for her. We truly appreciate all the effort you put into ensuring a safe and enriching adventure."

Amanda Lake Oswego, Oregon

"I had the amazing opportunity to travel on the Europe for Older Teens trip to Amsterdam, Munich, Switzerland, and Venice with TFT and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had! My amazing counselors were so welcoming and inclusive to not only me, but all the campers. I was a little nervous to go on the trip at first, but after just one day on the trip I knew I made the right choice! TFT programs are great because the counselors give you that independence you want, while also keeping everyone safe! That trip was one I will never forget, the memories I made with awesome people is priceless. Thank you TFT!"

Evie R. Readlyn, IA

"I wanted to let you know I have rarely seen my daughter so consistently happy. She was very nervous about going on this trip and has had some bad summer experiences in the past. She looked so joyful in all the photos and sounded so happy in the messages she sent me. Thank you for creating an environment that felt secure for her to relax and had so much fun."

Risa S. New York, NY

"Thank you so much for yet another update on what appears and sounds like has been an amazing trip. You and your team have made this quite an experience for our son Lucas on his first trip on his own. We love following the amazing pictures that are posted each day and hearing more about the many activities and places the group got to visit via your emails. We know Lucas is having a great time since we barely get to hear back from him, which means he’s been kept busy and enjoying his time with the group."

Carol Moorestown, New Jersey

"Thank you so much for being incredible guides on this amazing journey!! We can’t wait to see Eli and hear about every detail of everything he experienced (he was a little too busy to call us lol). Your daily emails were so informative…not to mention beautifully written. It really made us feel like we were on this journey with you :). And, of course, the Waldo photos were great! Eli has always loved to travel and I’m sure this experience has only deepened his passion. I’m sure he’ll want to do another trip next summer!"

Julie West Harrison, NY

"I have to say how impressed I am with this group…it’s so large and yet truly feels like a tight knit family!! We have had Tim’s older sisters on these trips in the past and they've all been amazing. Between the detailed and fun updates, and the amazing pictures…I really feel as though I’m experiencing the whole thing with you all. I cannot thank you and the other leaders enough and seeing all the smiles makes me smile too."
