What makes a trip to Iceland with Travel For Teens so special?

Snorkel Between Two Continents

This is not a typical swim! We take you to the Silfra Fissure in Þingvellir National Park, the only place in the world where you can snorkel directly in the rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The water is filtered through volcanic rock for up to 100 years, making it so clear that visibility can reach over 300 feet. It’s an epic, geological experience you’ll never forget.

A Non-Stop Geothermal Adventure Playground

Iceland is powered by the Earth itself, and our trip is packed with activities that tap into this unique energy. You’ll hike on the ice of Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull, witness the Strokkur Geyser erupt every few minutes like clockwork, and relax in a variety of natural hot springs, from the famous Blue Lagoon to lesser-known local pools. Every day offers a new way to experience the planet’s raw geothermal power.

Culture in the Coolest Capital: Reykjavik

Beyond the stunning wilderness, we explore the quirky, vibrant heart of Iceland. Reykjavík is a small city with a huge personality, known for its colorful corrugated iron houses, incredible street art, and thriving modern design scene. We’ll introduce you to local food markets to try unique Icelandic cuisine, check out the unique boutiques on Laugavegur street, and get a feel for why Icelanders are consistently ranked among the happiest people in the world.

Experience the Phenomenon of the Midnight Sun

Travel with us during the summer months (May through August) and witness one of the planet’s most magical and unique natural events: the Midnight Sun. Because of Iceland’s high latitude, the sun never fully sets; instead, it circles low on the horizon, bathing the dramatic landscape in a continuous, golden glow for nearly 24 hours a day. This phenomenon completely transforms your travel experience, creating a feeling of endless possibility. You’ll capture stunning, once-in-a-lifetime photos under a sky that always looks like an epic sunrise or sunset, making the most of every moment and truly turning your trip into an endless adventure.

Where will we stay, and how safe are the accommodations?

We prioritize safety, comfort, and authenticity in all our lodging choices. Our groups stay in a mix of modern, well-located hotels, and comfortable, unique family-run accommodations across Iceland. All locations are carefully vetted and supervised by our trip leaders. Safety is paramount: all accommodations meet rigorous standards, and our highly-trained trip leaders are present and available 24/7 to ensure a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for every traveler.

What kind of adventurous activities will we get to do?

Our Iceland trips are action-packed! You can expect to hike on a glacier with crampons and an ice axe, snorkel between tectonic plates in the Silfra Fissure, explore black sand beaches and dramatic basalt columns, and ride the unique, five-gaited Icelandic horses. We also go on a whale watching tour to spot humpbacks and dolphins, and experience the unique Viking Sushi Boat Cruise where fresh scallops and sea urchin are pulled straight from the sea for a truly local taste adventure. The entire trip is a hands-on exploration of the natural world and culture.

Is Iceland very cold, and what should I pack for the weather?

Iceland’s weather is famous for being unpredictable, often described as experiencing all four seasons in one day! The name “Iceland” is misleading; temperatures in summer are quite mild (45 -60 degrees Fahrenheit). The key to packing is layering. You will need thermal base layers, a warm fleece or sweater, a waterproof and windproof jacket, and sturdy, waterproof hiking boots. Don’t forget a swimsuit for the hot springs! A comprehensive, detailed packing list will be provided to all registered participants well in advance of the trip, so you know exactly what to bring for maximum comfort and preparation.

Is Iceland safe for teen travelers?

Yes, Iceland is consistently ranked as one of the safest countries in the world. It has a low crime rate and a strong culture of peace. Our dedicated TFT trip leaders are with you 24/7 and manage all travel logistics. Safety is our top priority, and that includes professional local guides for specialized activities like glacier hiking and snorkeling.

"Iceland is such a beautiful country, it was almost like another world. This trip was action packed and we got to see a lot of what this gorgeous country has to offer. We got to drive around the entire ring road, which not even a lot of locals have done. It was always exciting to see the changing scenery day after day. From its spectacular waterfalls, to its glistening glaciers and toasty hot springs, Iceland has something for everyone! I enjoyed every day while on the trip and every activity we did was exhilarating. Iceland is defiantly a one of a kind country and I recommend everyone to visit it at least once in their life!"

"This past summer I went on the Iceland Adventure trip and I genuinely had a great time. I loved how the trip was more like a road trip and we were in a different city every day. It was fun being able to travel along the coast of Iceland! My favorite activity’s on the trip was going to the blue lagoon, hiking a glacier, and mainly the bus rides, we would blast music and everyone was singing. The trip director and the counselors were fun to be around and they helped make the trip enjoyable. I met some amazing people that I talk to every day. I can’t wait to go on a new trip this summer!"

"I went to Iceland and had an amazing experience!! From visiting beautiful waterfalls to playing soccer with locals, the trip was action packed. A few of my favorite memories are horseback riding under the midnight sun and snorkeling between the tectonic plates. The fourth of July happened to fall while we were abroad and our group celebrated by going to a nearby waterfall, eating cake and playing frisbee. Everyone on the trip became super close, which made the vibe even better!! My counselors were great and always looking out for our best interest. I highly recommend this trip if you're looking to see some extraordinary views and immerse yourself in a new culture."

"I was lucky enough to travel to Iceland with TFT the first summer they ran the program, and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Traveling the ring road of Iceland proved to be the best way to see all of Iceland and what it has to offer. Though I was unable to pronounce half of the places we visited, it was extremely special to travel to small towns like Seydisfjordur and Stykkisholmur that most tourists to Iceland don’t get to see. Iceland is a truly unique and special country, and this trip provided me with the opportunity to see all of the famous, breathtaking waterfalls, while also allowing me to kayak in the fjords, from a town of less than 500 people. Whether it was hiking on glaciers or swimming in between continental plates in the Silfra fissure, this trip never failed to amaze me."

"Mia returned from her trip feeling real satisfied and fulfilled with her experience. She felt that she learned a lot about Iceland, the culture, the history and the landscape. Mia shared that the itinerary was well organized, and chock full of wonderful things to do. It exceeded her expectations."
