Spain & France School Trip Overview

The sunny seaside boardwalks of Spain and the chic buzzing boulevards of France: There’s no better place for students to bring the what they’ve learned in the classroom into the real world than these vibrant Mediterranean countries. We’ll begin our adventure in regal Madrid, home to the Spanish Royal Family, the Reina Sofía Art Museum, and Real Madrid Football Club. From there, we’ll catch the high-speed AVE train to Barcelona, where students will learn to make their own paella and tapas, marvel at Antoní Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece the Sagrada Familia, and take a bike ride along the famous Barceloneta Beach. A short flight over the border brings us to the City of Light, where students will be amazed at how different cultures thrive side by side in Europe. The goal of this trip is to give student travelers a deep understanding of both of these unique cultures, so they can see that what they’ve learned in school has real-world applications.

Our mission is to provide an authentic experience rooted in “teaching teens to be travelers, not tourists.” Language students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in French and Spanish and practice what they have learned in the classroom. Our staff members will help students discover that foreign languages are an exciting tool they can use wherever their travels might take them.

Thanks to our years of experience in leading young travelers all over Europe, Travel For Teens are experts in engaging and inspiring student travelers. Join us on this one-of-a-kind cultural experience and leave them with memories to last a lifetime!

DAY 1: ¡Bienvenidos a España!

Flight from your preferred airport to Madrid.

DAY 2: Live like Spanish Royalty

Upon arriving in Madrid, you’ll be met by your Travel For Teens guides who will accompany you for the duration of your journey. After getting settled into our hotel in downtown Madrid, we’ll have lunch and head off to the spectacular Royal Palace, where students will enjoy a tour led by a local guide. In the afternoon, we’ll have a walking tour of the area around la Puerta del Sol before enjoying our first delicious tapas dinner.

DAY 3: Madrid's Masterpieces

Today we’ll see why Madrid is one of Europe’s most livable cities. Begin with a guided tour of the Museo del Prado, where our art historian guide will help students gain an appreciation for the masterpieces found here. Next, in the Parque del Retiro, have a relaxing lunch, visit the turtles at the Crystal Palace and go for a rowboat ride on the pond. In the afternoon, the group will have their choice of seeing works by Dalí and Picasso at the Museo de la Reina Sofía, visiting the home of Real Madrid Football Club at the Bernabéu Stadium, or having free time for shopping in Madrid’s hip boutiques. For dinner, try some more local specialties, like Basque pintxos or tortilla de patata.

DAY 4: Bustling Barcelona

This morning, board the high-speed AVE train from Madrid to Barcelona. In just a few short hours, we will have arrived in this buzzing Mediterranean city. Enjoy your first lunch in the Boquería Market, where locals still come to buy their fresh produce, catch-of-the-day fish, and sweet treats. Get acquainted this afternoon with a bike tour of Barcelona, which is always a student favorite! (An alternative will be offered for those not comfortable on a bike.) As always, dinner will be traditional, authentic cuisine at one of our favorite local restaurants.

DAY 5: Exploring Gaudí's Legacy

Begin the day at Antoní Gaudí’s enchanting Parc Guell, where The Cheetah Girls and ANTM were filmed. After marveling at this whimsical park, put your cooking skills to the test and learn to make your own paella and tapas with a local chef. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the beach or exploring Parc de la Ciutadella. Dinner will be another culinary adventure with a chance to sample more authentic cuisine–montaditos, anyone? Complete your day with an evening stroll around the city and, of course, a stop for gelato!

DAY 6: Rambling down las Ramblas

This morning, we’ll visit the Sagrada Familia, the city’s famous basilica that has been under construction for nearly 100 years! After lunch, we’ll split up to allow students to choose which activity most interests them. We understand that student travelers have diverse interests and needs, so our staff do their very best to accommodate everyone’s must-sees. Students may choose to visit Camp Nou, home to FC Barcelona; the Picasso Museum; or have free time for souvenir shopping on Passèig de Grácia. After another delicious dinner, marvel at the lights and music spectacle at the Magic Fountain of Montjuic.

DAY 7: Bonjour, Paris!

A short flight from Barcelona brings us to the City of Light, where we’ll dive right into Parisian culture. Our first stop, of course, will be the Eiffel Tower. No trip to Paris would be complete without going all the way to the top of one of the most famous buildings in the world. In the evening, we’ll have dinner and stroll around the hip artistic neighborhood of Montmartre. See the infamous Moulin Rouge, the ancient windmill that still stands today, and the view from the Sacré-Coeur Basilica at twilight.

DAY 8: Biking through hidden Paris

Begin the day with a visit to the Musée d’Orsay, home to some of the most famous masterpieces by Impressionists such as van Gogh, Monet, Cézanne, Signac, Manet, Degas and more. At lunchtime, visit the impressive Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame, where students can even climb the towers to see the famous gargoyles and get an amazing view of Paris. This afternoon, delve into Paris’ hidden alleys and ancient history on a bike tour of the city. Always a student favorite, our local guide will bring us through the Marais, past Bastille, across the Seine and to the ancient heart of Paris. (As always, an alternative will be offered for those not comfortable on a bike.) In the evening, explore the Latin Quarter before enjoying a traditional dinner of fondue and raclette. Cap off this amazing day with a twilight river cruise down the Seine to see Paris lit up at night.

DAY 9: Exploring the City of Light

Begin the day with a guided tour of the Musée du Louvre to see firsthand some of the world’s most impressive masterpieces. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the Tuileries Gardens and have some free time to explore the area around the Hôtel de Ville, Chatelet, and Rue de Rivoli. In the afternoon, students can climb the mighty Arc de Triomphe before having free time to souvenir shop on the Champs-Élysées. Now is the perfect time to pick up macarons from Ladurée! We’ll celebrate the end of an incredible trip with an upscale final dinner at one of our favorite fancy restaurants.

DAY 10: Au revoir, Europe!

Your TFT guides will accompany you to the airport and assist you with check-in for your flight. Wave goodbye as you head through security and sit back and relax on your flight home.

We are there for you every step of the way, and our support begins the moment you decide to do a TFT trip! We will provide you with a team member who will help bring your tour to life, along with everything you need to help get students to sign up for the adventure! On the tour you will have 24/7 dedicated staff with you to ensure everything runs smoothly and because we know travel is full of surprises, solve anything that may pop up along the way.

Photos and Email Updates

Your trip is special and you and your students should have those memories captured forever! Expect frequent personal email updates and hundreds of photos from your TFT staff shared with you and your students’ families so everyone can follow along on the journey. We are the only teen travel program to offer this in-depth trip communication and it truly makes all the difference!

"I wanted to thank you for a fantastic trip for Kayla. She was very excited but also very anxious about this trip. I heard from her a lot the first few days but was really encouraging her to advocate for herself. It sounds like she worked on doing that and relayed the positive outcomes of conversing with you. That was a big deal for us. In addition to that it sounds like an amazing trip, and never having been to Greece I’m envious! I hope that you enjoyed your time as well.Thank you so much for your updates, support, and for working with my daughter. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer."

"This trip…my goodness!!! When we hear from Jordan, he is beyond happy! He has said that “this is the best time he’s ever had” and things “couldn't be better”. Based on the photos, your blogs and the things he tells us, he is not going to want to come home!! Thank you, Vianeli and Hana for making this an experience of a lifetime!"

Holly B. Pleasantville, NY

"The feedback is that this has been the most outstanding trip Charlie has ever taken. This will go down as the time when my son broke out of his shell and started to really love life people places and experiences. Yes for such incredible friendships from these past 12 days and I don’t think I have ever seen him quite so happy every single time I talk to him. Charlie has expressed to me on numerous accounts how wonderful a counselor and guide and mentor and friend that you have have been. It is his fourth trip and by far his most favorite on all fronts. I can’t thank you enough for taking care of our children while in Europe. It’s a huge responsibility and you took it seriously and gave them the time of their lives. I could not be more grateful and appreciative of this trip and the program and the moments that he will carry with him the rest of his life. AAA+ grade in my book."
