Program Overview

Organized by The Fletcher School and Travel For Teens, this once-in-a-lifetime adventure will take you through Japan’s most iconic cities—Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and more—for an unforgettable cultural experience filled with history, tradition, and modern wonder.

Your journey begins in Tokyo, where ancient temples stand alongside neon-lit neighborhoods. You’ll explore the historic Senso-ji Temple, stroll through the bustling streets of Shibuya and Harajuku, and take part in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Visit TeamLab Tokyo for an immersive digital art experience that will leave you speechless, and enjoy your first tastes of authentic Japanese cuisine.

Next, ride the bullet train to Nikko, home to one of Japan’s most sacred UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Visit centuries-old shrines, walk across the iconic Shinkyo Bridge, and discover the Kanmangafuchi Abyss before spending the evening in a traditional guest house.

Then, it’s on to the cultural capital of Kyoto, where you’ll visit the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine, walk through the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, and explore ancient temples that have stood for over a thousand years. Participate in a private karate lesson and cap off your evenings with delicious group dinners and even a little karaoke.

This immersive program blends the best of traditional and modern Japan, offering students the chance to connect with its people, history, and culture in meaningful and unforgettable ways.

We do allow participants to bring their phones, but we ask that they use it solely as a camera when we are out and about during the day. We want everyone to focus on living in the moment and fully experience each new destination we are visiting without being absorbed in their phones. We ask that participants look at their journey with us as a way to disconnect. When we have downtime at our hotels in the evenings it is okay for participants to use their devices to connect with friends and family back home.
