TFT Spring Update
Suddenly it’s April and the adventures of Summer 2012 are right around the corner! There’s a lot going on right now at TFT Headquarters and this is the time to sign up for your summer trip if you haven’t already – space is going fast and we already have trips filling up to maximum capacity.
Here are a few updates and trips you’ll want to know more about …
Vernazza in the Cinque Terre
Don’t delay – now is the time to submit your 300-500 word essay on the topic of “International Friendship”. The winner will get a totally FREE all expenses paid (including airfare!) ride on the Cinque Terre Service trip this summer. For anyone who has always wanted to travel but may not have the means to do so, this is your ticket. Just ask Carina Taufiq, our 2011 winner – her world changed after winning this contest last year.
The Cinque Terre trip features 5 days staying in the heart of a fishing village on the Italian Riviera which was devastated in October by tragic flash floods. The central areas of this beautiful town have been rebuilt and improved, but much work remains to be done. Our group will work alongside local volunteers to clean and maintain the network of trails that connect the villages of the Cinque Terre.
The second half of the trip features cultural exploration in Rome and the Amalfi Coast. We will stay in Rome and visit the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, and Vatican City, before heading further south to stay in sunny Sorrento. Experience the Blue Grotto on Capri, walk the ancient streets of Pompeii or Herculaneum, and eat the best pizza of your life in Naples.
The contest closes at 12pm EDT on April 16th, 2012 – be sure to submit your essay with plenty of time to spare.
Featured Trips – Travel With TFT In 2012
These trips are especially hot right now and we want to make sure you don’t miss out. From the Swiss Alps to China, here is a taste of the wide range of TFT adventures on offer.
Lake Geneva in Switzerland
An active trip designed for those who want a balance between stunning nature and outdoor activities and cultural exploration. Stay in the Swiss Alps, in the Italian Dolomites, and bellissima Verona, Italy to finish off the trip in style.
Amsterdam on Backpacking I
Ride the rails and experience the best of Europe on these two different trips. Backpacking I will start you off up north in Amsterdam. Roll down to Munich, in the heart of Bavaria, and before you know it you’ll find yourself in a tiny village nestled in the Swiss Alps. Traverse the Alps and finish your journey in Venice – you just did a coast to coast trip through Europe!
Florence on Backpacking II
Backpacking II kicks off in Florence, cradle of the Renaissance and home to modern Vespa-revving espresso-drinking fashionistas. Train it to the legendary Cinque Terre, aka the Italian Riviera, before arriving at the backpacker mecca of Interlaken, Switzerland. From there we will jump on the French TGV (high speed train) and end up in Paris. Classic.
The Great Wall
China: Modern + Ancient = Awesome. How to sum up this epic 17-day journey in a few words? Jump into things in Shanghai and get your bearings before heading down to Shaolin (hit the Kung Fu Temple) and Luoyang. On day 6 we go to Xi’an, home of the famous Terracotta Warriors and beginning (or end) of the Silk Road. Cruise down to Chengdu and the Sichuan countryside where we will donate our time at the Giant Panda Breeding Chengdu Research Base, learning about conservation efforts along the way. Beijing and the Great Wall is where we tie it all together at the end of the trip – almost unbelievably ancient and so cutting-edge modern at the same time, it is at times a bewildering experience to explore this capital city of China.
Just about everybody takes along a camera when they travel, but it takes time and practice to know how to create memorable, lasting images of your journeys. Join us in Paris, Italy (Tuscany & Venice), Southern Africa, or Thailand this summer to kick your travel photography to the next level and put together an impressive portfolio while you do it. These four trips have been carefully crafted to combine hands-on active photography lessons with cultural exploration.
