Meet Your Trip Director: Margaux Charpentier
Hope Valley, RI
Current city: Madrid!
What do you do with TFT when you’re not leading trips?
I oversee all the reservations worldwide, especially in Europe! Buying train tickets, reserving hotels, etcetera… Figuring out what fun things the groups are going to be doing always gets me excited for our trips!
Sandals or sneakers?
Name one thing you wish you knew about traveling abroad before you went on your first trip:
It’s easy and cheap to get local currency out of an ATM and Google Offline Maps is your best friend.
If you were a country, which one would you be and why?
I might be the USA, because I have the American mentality of “live to work,” not “work to live.” It’s what happens when you love your job like I do!
What is one foreign comfort food that you love?
Spanish “tortilla de patatas” – potato and egg omelet. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
What’s your go-to final fancy dinner-type outfit?
Light sundress, ballet flats/flat sandals, and a light cardigan in case it gets cold. The flat shoes are key – heels take up too much room in my backpack!
The most overrated must-do activity you’ve ever tried:
Those red tourist buses that can be found in every city in Europe, though I still think that the best way to get to know a city is by public transport and getting lost on purpose!
What are some key words and phrases you like to learn in a foreign country’s language before traveling? “Hello,” “Please,” “Thank you,” and a smile have gotten me everywhere I need to go in every country I’ve been to.
Have you ever had any celebrity sightings when traveling?
I ran into Justin Bieber in Paris once!
Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses or one horse-sized duck?
The duck. I feel like I could tickle it into submission.
