WE’RE IN THIS TOGETHER.

Statement About Our Mission in Unprecedented Times

We can all agree that 2020 is presenting many challenges for many people and many industries. The travel industry experienced possibly the greatest impact, especially teen travel, due to the enhanced responsibility necessary to safely provide valuable experiences. We are confident of our ability to deliver safe and meaningful student travel for 2021.

We at Travel For Teens have spent this time thinking, refining, and changing in order to understand and meet the needs and desires of our travelers and their parents. We are now offering the most complete and comprehensive program options in the teen travel industry.

We are embracing the concept of traveling in a pod — a group of COVID-tested travelers who stay together using social distancing in the presence of outsiders and with zero to minimal interactions outside the pod. Many of our programs incorporate extended time outdoors where social distancing is easier. Our trips will also include enhanced cleaning measures along with greater attention to masks and handwashing.

We are very optimistic that vaccines will be available prior to next summer as well as other preventive options and reliable testing procedures — which will help us ensure that participants and staff are healthy as trips commence.

We will also be offering shorter trips for families who are more comfortable with less time away from home.

We are actively studying rules for the countries and regions where we travel and incorporating compliance into the everyday fabric of our trips.

While no one knows when borders will open or which ones will, many already are — these include Costa Rica and many Caribbean nations, amongst others. We are offering our existing programs along with new additions in these regions.

We project that Europe will be accessible for travel, and we are offering our existing roster of trips there. We also added programs that lend themselves to the pod concept of interaction by minimizing or eliminating moving from place to place.

We know that many parents feel safer this year closer to home, with minimal to no flights, and with a greater focus on staying away from big cities and being outside. In response to this feedback, you will find a dramatically enhanced roster of domestic trips that meet this profile, including some exciting new community service trips.

Finally, we have added family trips –trips where parents, grandparents, and other significant adults can travel with their teenagers.

We are proud of the programs we are offering, and we look forward to answering any questions you may have on how we are responding to the pandemic. We believe our programs are well thought out and exciting, and we are sure you will agree! As always, we will continue to heed the guidance of public health experts and student travel experts and will continue to make decisions with our participants, staff, and global community partners at the forefront of every conversation. FAQS: TFT AND COVID-19

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR NEW SAFETY MEASURES TAKING COVID-19 INTO ACCOUNT?

We have spent the past few months thinking, refining, and changing in order to understand and meet the needs and desires of our travelers and their parents.

We are working on a wide variety of new program options that will minimize traveling around while still allowing for deep and meaningful cultural connections and exploration.

In preparation for future trips, we have revised our existing safety protocols both prior to a program’s departure and during the program itself. Our staff training includes additional instruction regarding the health and safety of our participants.

WHEN WILL TRAVEL RESUME?

As of mid-September, TFT plans to run a small number of programs starting in late December provided they can be run safely and thoughtfully. While it is easy to fixate on the negative news about our current world, TFT focuses on the positive developments at home and abroad. We have heard from hundreds of families who are optimistic that meaningful travel will be able to resume in the not too distant future.

As 2020 remains fluid, we anticipate that certain restrictions and social distancing measures will remain in place, and ultimately, that travel will look different in 2021 than it has in the past. In many potential ways, travel may be safer and more meaningful than ever.

While we are planning to carefully and safely run programs domestically and internationally over the next twelve months, we still need to patiently wait for certain key health indicators to improve.

We remain hopeful that as vaccines are developed, treatments refined, and an overall better understanding of how to live and move beyond the current ‘new normal,’ the barriers to travel will gradually lift and safe, meaningful teen travel programs will resume.

Safety has always been, and will always be our number one priority. Taking into account the health of our travelers, staff, and communities we visit, we are looking ahead to when travel can happen safely. From all of us in the TFT family, we are grateful for your ongoing support, patience, and understanding.

HOW IS TFT DETERMINING IF TRAVEL IS SAFE?

As the trip departures grow closer, we will be actively assessing program feasibility. Travel can resume provided that our groups can enjoy a meaningful shared group travel experience without compromising safety. Travel carries inherent risks and TFT has always aimed to mitigate risk to maintain the health and safety of our participants, leaders, and partners.

Destination safety and stability are key. For 18 seasons, we have prided ourselves on knowing the places where we operate inside and out to achieve our mission of teaching teens to be travelers, not tourists. Finding the right balance going forward means carefully considering if the destination can be visited safely and if the infrastructure that ensures safety is stable enough to take on the great responsibility of caring for teens while they are away from their families. The overall condition of our destinations has always been and will be assessed on a place-by-place basis.

We are prepared to make any necessary program modifications to ensure the safety of our travelers. If there are travel restrictions that would prevent us from providing a high-quality experience we will reassess and either modify the itinerary or cancel the program as needed.

For the leadership at TFT, there is no greater responsibility than the safety of someone’s child. We feel for all of the parents who have watched their child stifled by the inability to connect with peers face to face and experience life outside of a screen. We look forward to providing future safe opportunities for our participants to connect in person.

WHAT IS TFT’S REFUND POLICY?

The benefits of traveling and connecting with our peers are more evident than ever, but the current state of the world can make planning for travel difficult — so we want to provide flexibility and security when planning your next TFT trip. That’s why we’re introducing our Flexible Travel Guarantee, so you can plan your adventures with confidence knowing you’re protected.

In addition to our Flexible Travel Guarantee, all new deposits and tuition payments made between September 20th, 2020 and December 1st, 2020 are fully refundable less the application fee. We want to provide families with peace of mind during these uncertain times.

IS IT OKAY TO CONSIDER TRAVELING NOW?

Travel is crucial for developing cultural awareness and creating global citizens. More than ever, teens need the chance to grow from shared experiences that happen in person, not through a screen. We believe strongly in the transformative power of shared travel experiences and the exponential growth teens gain from exploring the world with their peers. We anticipate that travel will resume slowly and we plan to run all of our existing programs for winter, spring, and summer 2021 in safe, teen-friendly environments.

We look forward to providing meaningful experiences for our participants to form new friendships, create lasting memories, and feel inspired by the magic of summer camp.
