Beach Classes

In Spain, one really does live well. A beachside hotel steps from a crescent of white sand, fringed with eucalyptus trees, with a view of Portugal directly across the water...

What better, quicker way to become adept at the Spanish language than to attend one of our language programs in these beautiful settings?

NOTE: Many of our travelers combine this trip with either our Spain & Portugal cultural exploration trip or our other Spanish language program trip in Seville.

GALICIA - Language Study in Paradise!
In response to many participants’ request for a language program combined with community service in Spain, Travel For Teens, LLC has developed one that is cutting edge and consistent with our philosophy that learning should be fun.

It features intensive language learning according to your level of Spanish fluency (3 levels assessed by staff) in the morning, followed by afternoons hanging out with local kids. There is no better way to learn Spanish than spending time with locals to give both Americans and Spaniards a chance to do something unique and innovative. Purposeful language experience is the perfect way to improve your Spanish!

Patrick TeachingWe're There To Help
Your teachers will be with you for support throughout each day and will go over each student’s work one on one every few days. A Spanish journal will be kept by each participant throughout the duration of the trip, allowing each TFT participant a chance to reflect on the day’s activities and comment on cultural differences each evening.

All Work and No Play?
Not by a long shot! You can count on some intense volleyball and/or soccer on the beach, and you'll have plenty of time to swim in the hotel pool, play tennis, or relax in the hot tub--all right out back! You'll have opportunities to shop, hike, or just chill out if you feel like it. Night-time is for visiting the small towns nearby to mix with the locals, and for clubbing!

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
We've teamed up with local kids to help you practice what you've learned in real life; you will be writing and reading Spanish in addition to speaking the language. You will indeed learn to speak as the locals do, which is often somewhat different than the textbook version, to say the least.

THE COUNSELORS
Advanced group teacher, Patrick David, is not only a French and Spanish teacher at a prestigious private prep school near Philadelphia, but also a former professional soccer player and an award winning coach of both soccer and women’s volleyball.

Our very own Philippe David (intermediates) is a French and Spanish major who played college lacrosse. Karin Maynard (beginners) spent her summers in Galicia and has a love and affinity for the language and the culture (she is also a world class chef!). Johnny Perkins, who has lived and worked in 4 Spanish speaking countries for over 4 years, is an aspiring Flamenco guitarist who loves to share and make music.

MADRID - Practice Time!
After the academic aspect of the trip is finished, you will travel to Madrid. While still using Spanish, even with each other, you will explore the sights of Spain's spectacular capital city. Visit the Royal Palace and see Goya's masterpieces at the Prado museum. Prowl the markets, take in a Flamenco show, and do some power shopping. Take day trips to Segovia and Toledo*.

You will eat in some very nice restaurants, spend evenings taking in the rich, passionate atmosphere of Madrid and reflect on how you had such an intense, effective learning experience that improved your Spanish so much in such a short time!
