This trip is not a superficial bus tour because we know the most meaningful travel is not just about what you see; it is about understanding the people, culture and history of wherever you are that make seeing sites like Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia cathedral a genuinely fun, meaningful experience. Our goal is to immerse you in the life and culture of the people - to pass on our knowledge and love of the cities we visit, and to cultivate a hunger to learn more and to travel farther.
You do NOT need to know any Spanish to go on this trip! If you are learning Spanish, however, there is no better way to practice than by putting it to the test in Spain with the help of your counselors. NOTE: Many of our travelers combine this trip with either one or both of our language program trips in Galicia or Seville, or with a trip to Paris, Greece, or Italy. |
LA RAMBLA - An Experience All Its Own |
Catamaran Cruise Gaudi, Miro, Dali and Graffiti!
Gaudi, the great Catalonian artist and architect, lived and worked in Barcelona, leaving his unique, world famous stamp there. We walk in his footsteps through the park full of his work to see the unusual architectural style of his house and his even more unusual cathedral, La Sagrada Familia - 125 years old and still under construction! The presence of the great Jean Miro can be felt throughout the city: on the streets, the buildings, the lobbies... everywhere. |

In a wonderful hotel just a few steps from the beach. The views from the beach across the water to Portugal are fabulous, as are the soccer, paddle ball, and volleyball games in the afternoons.
Behind our hotel is a pool, tennis court, and hot tub. Get to know the friendly waiters where we eat lunch most days at an outdoor restaurant on the beach overlooking the ocean... Some nights are for relaxing under the stars on the beach, while others you have the option of heading into town for clubbing with local teens. |

We begin our day in a small, beautiful posada that is all but hidden in the mountains. Built from the ground up by the owner (one of Karin's cousins), the posada's terrace is draped in flowers and vines, and offers an extraordinary view of the mountains. We are greeted as family and given a short tour before sitting down for a home made lunch (don't worry, traditional Galician food is well liked by even the pickiest eaters!). Before lunch, however, we are invited to partake in an archaic Druid ceremony involving a flaming cauldron, music, and dancing! | |

Its not long before we reach the most beautiful spot on the trail, a place where we stop to swim in clear, still pools beneath waterfalls, then sun ourselves on the warm rocks. The scenery is truly breathtaking, and so remote you are unlikely to see anything but the roaming local cattle! |

PORTUGAL
The cuisine is mild, filling and delicious and the people clean, friendly, hardworking and polite. A simple "Obrigado" (thank you) will bring wide smiles from these most genuine of people. We will also visit the royal town of Sintra, with the castle so often seen on Portuguese postcards. Truly an environment fit for a king, Sintra offers spectacular, lush, flowered landscapes with sweeping views over the sea. This is the perfect place to be royal... for a day. |
| From cosmopolitan Barcelona to intriguing Galicia and on to Portugal, this adventure is destined to be your very own trip of a lifetime. Our emphasis is on safety, authenticity, and choice so that you can come away enriched, with a love for Spain and Portugal that may surprise you. |
