From the golden dome over Napoléon's tomb to the soaring heights of the Sacré Couer atop Montmartre, from the recently discovered medieval walls below the Louvre, to breathtaking views from the Eiffel Tower at dusk, no important facet of Parisian history and culture is missed.
|
![]() Paris is one of the best cities in the world in which to consume high culture, millennia of history, and a spectrum of art, architecture, fashion, food, theater, opera and fun unlike anywhere else. Rather than skim the surface in a day or two, we spend nearly two weeks delving into the intricacies of Paris.
In both Paris and the south of France we hunt for exclusive items in chic boutiques and the cheapest souvenirs in international markets. We see priceless art in some of the world’s finest museums and watch street artists perform on the beach. |
![]() Of course, Parisians aren’t tourists in their own city, and neither are we. We shop where the locals shop, browsing in outdoor food markets.
We play where the locals play, tossing frisbees and kicking soccer balls in the gardens of kings. We travel by Métro, zooming along while people-watching and reading the newspaper in French. The Paris language program is designed to give students exposure to French in its native environment, to teach them not only the fundamentals of vocabulary and grammar but, more important, the way the language is used in everyday life. |
|
Classes will be taught exclusively by TFT staff, certified language teachers who are selected not only for their expertise in the French language and professionalism as educators, but also for their caring and supportive nature. There will be two levels, beginners and advanced, and a placement evaluation will be conducted once we arrive in Paris. Students will attend 2-3 hours of formal classroom time each morning, focusing on vocabulary acquisition and grammatical structures, including various verb tenses, use of prepositions, linguistic gender, and syntax. A strong emphasis is placed on practical, useful phrases which can be taken directly from the classroom out into the city the very same day. Instruction is delivered in French to the highest extent possible, aside from times when it becomes necessary to use English. |
While the classroom requires some work, the payoff is immediate and immense. The curriculum is directly linked to afternoon activities, which are cultural in nature but focus strongly on opportunities to flex our linguistic muscles. Included are visits to “les incontournables,” or must-see sights.
We chat in French while strolling down the Champs Elysées or along sparkling Mediterranean beaches, translate signs on our way to Versailles and discover how French lent us so many words related to cuisine while we enjoy private cooking lessons.
Note: Though our Paris cultural exploration programs run simultaneously to the Paris language programs, the trips are directed by a separate staff. Though groups use the same hotel in the heart of Paris as their base, daily activities are completely separate. The two groups do merge together for the optional historical excursion to Normandy, the behind the scene's fashion tour, the last night’s dinner, and some nights of clubbing. |
